Gouda Pottery Items for sale
|
| Description: |
This charming item, and now fairly rare, is a Gouda pottery Bell. The top half is modelled as a
Dutch Lady in traditional costume. It was made in the PZH factory, probably dating from the post-war period (late 1940s until around 1950), since it is typical of that period when for a short while items were produced for the tourist trade. The outside shows an "IJsselmeer" scene and the name of the village "Ermelo" which is a small village in the heart of Holland near the "IJsselmeer", formerly known as the "Zuiderzee" before it was closed off from the sea in 1932. The inside is marked with the wellknown "Gate of Lazarus" and the factory name K.P.Z. (Koninklijke Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland). In the early 1930s the factory added the word "Royal" (i.e. "Koninklijke" in Dutch). The mould number is 4393 (or 4392). The artist's initials are P.H. (P. Hoogenbrugge). It is in perfect condition, except the "clapper" on the inside is missing. The height is 11.5cm and the diameter at the base is 7.5cm. |
